Watched CSI Miami and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
its heart pain to see one of the characters in CSI get killed

"In the Season 8 finale ("For Gedda"), Warrick is held for questioning after the murder of mafia boss Lou Gedda. Earlier in the season, Warrick had become involved with a woman connected with Gedda. After she was killed, Warrick became a prime suspect in her murder. During Warrick's investigation, rumors began that Gedda had a mole in the LVPD. Gedda phoned Warrick to inform him that he's "ready to talk." During the discussion, Warrick is framed for Gedda's murder. The night shift crew is kept from the case, which is processed by Conrad Ecklie and the day shift crew. Grissom requested that Ecklie allow them to process the raw evidence after the day shift crew has had their turn, in order to draw their own conclusions. In doing so, Grissom's team discovered that another LVPD officer was involved in Gedda's murder and the LVPD did not press charges against Warrick. However, there is some foreshadowing to this, in season 5, Warrick says, "I don't want to see it coming, I like surprises."

After Warrick's release, Grissom's team eat at a local diner to celebrate his acquittal. Nick asks Warrick if he wants to go for a beer, but Warrick passes. As he heads to the back alley and gets into his parked car, Undersheriff Jeffery McKeen approaches and asks him about the case. Warrick reminds him that Gedda's mole is still out there and that he will keep searching for him. The Undersheriff says to Warrick, "That's what makes you a great CSI.", then shoots Warrick, cleans the gun of his prints, drops it in the car, walks away as Warrick slumps onto the steering wheel and calls in the shooting.

In the season 9 premiere, Grissom discovers Warrick's body in his parked car. Grissom removes him from the car and discovers that Warrick is still alive. Warrick attempts to inform Grissom of his attacker, however he dies before revealing the identity. McKeen is later apprehended and arrested. During the investigation of his death, papers were found in Warrick's apartment disclosing that he had a son. In a video that was made, Warrick reveals his dedication to parenting a child and how he learned to care for people from Grissom. Warrick's funeral is held days later and Grissom delivers an emotional eulogy, saying that he will miss him so much. In the episode "Turn, Turn, Turn," it is revealed that Nick and some of the others started a college fund for Warrick's son."
